I’m a former English teacher turned instructional designer living in Jacksonville, Florida. The skills and experience that made me a good teacher uniquely prepared me for the work I’m doing now. I wrote about the transition from teaching to ID in this article for Learning Solutions magazine.
As a full time instructional designer for a growing medical device company, my work gives our salesforce a head start in becoming product experts and keeps our product development team in compliance with training in risk management.
As a freelance designer, I choose projects where I can apply my creativity and learner empathy. I use an agile process (Successive Approximation Model) for project management, and am proficient in Rise 360 and Camtasia for content development.
Thanks for checking out my work.

Operation New Hope: Ready4Work eLearning Initiative
As lead education consultant, I collaborated with a team of developers to redesign a personal and professional skills curriculum of 18 courses for clients at Operation New Hope (ONH).
A national model program that believes “Second Chances Matter,” ONH provides services to people affected by the criminal justice system in northeast Florida. As a key component of its successful Ready 4 Work program, the new eLearning initiative extends ONH’s reach to more participants within its growing network of locations.
My responsibilities included developing the course objectives and overall design as well as writing all instructor and animation scripts, practice activities, and assessment items (pre Chat-GPT).
Each course includes several "before and after" style animations, putting characters in real life situations where a particular skill was lacking (part a), then demonstrated (part b) -- with the "lesson" in between.
My e-learning courses equip our new sales hires with a solid foundation in anatomy, surgical indications, and the features and benefits of our stock and customized surgical solutions.
I established a new standard of quality for our company's salesforce training by converting PowerPoint lectures on all product lines into structured, intentional learning experiences, increasing engagement and accountability.
As a crucial piece of their onboarding experience, these courses maximize the effectiveness of onsite training and help build their confidence in case management.
I developed the product knowledge and administative training courses for new sales hires. Practice questions and quizzes accelerate retention and prepares them for on-site training.
The Risk Management courses encourage active learning by having employees make decisions and reference job aids for each step of the risk management process.
I design compliance training grounded in real-world scenarios. My approach ensures learners not only understand the requirements but see their relevance to everyday decisions and actions. I've tackled topics like manufacturing machine validations, product design and development, HIPAA, and ethics.
In this example, new hires on our product development team take my courses to understand the importance of compliance with regulatory authorities in the design and development process. The growth of the team and number of new projects sparked the need for an increased focus on risk management.
New hires have a lot to learn, including all those policies in the handbook. But do they ever get around to really reading it?
To counter this challenge, I created interactive new hire guides in Rise 360 for two businesses looking to update their onboarding materials. These “mini courses” highlight important policies from the employee handbook with a more personal touch, reducing questions for Human Resources staff and communicating company culture through images, videos, and more. There are even knowledge checks along the way.
New employees receive a link to the guide as part of a welcome email and can revisit it when needed.
This onboarding guide for an electrical contractor generates excitement for new hires with a lighthearted approach and plenty of puns.
Poppy's Adventures in Real Estate
It can be scary entering the real estate market for the first time. So why not let a puppy explain the process to you?
For this project, I created a series of explainer videos for a realtor featuring her beloved bulldog, Poppy, on adventures using the Multiple Listing Service, buying a home, and selling a home.
The videos helped my client brand her new real estate business and educate first time clients. I developed the concept, script, and storyboard for this series.
The second video (left) shows Poppy using my client's expertise to help hunt down her dream doghouse.
